JSC "Smiltynes perkela" received the international transport field award
On 9 October, Public Limited Liability Company “Smiltynės perkėla” received an international transport award – the New Millennium Prize. The New Millennium Prize was awarded to the company for investments in new ferries, for renewal of water transport fleet, and for purposeful and successful business. This international prize was founded in order to encourage companies engaged in carriage of goods and passengers, by assessing the quality of their services and contribution towards international trade, which helps to integrate the countries into the world economy that is getting more and more global.
“This honourable prize of the World Trade Leaders' Club is a high evaluation of our company’s performance,” – said Arvydas Vaitkus, Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communication, congratulating the Company’s head upon receipt of the international award.
The World Trade Leaders’ Club established in 1950 in Madrid unites companies and organizations of the whole world that have achieved extraordinary results in the field of trade, investment and service. The Presidium of this world organization annually elects and awards the best organizations.
As Arseno Padro Rodriguez, the President of the international Trade Leaders’ Club, emphasized, the receipt of such award grants the right to the company to become a full member of this club. Membership in this club grants an opportunity for the company to enter into relations with over 7000 companies from 95 countries that are using the services of this club.
The granting of such award enhances the company’s international image and lends a possibility to enter into relations with the representatives of companies from many countries of the world who participate in this event.
The example of good practice of AB “Smiltynės perkėla”
On 13 November 2007 Public Limited Liability Company (AB) “Smiltynės perkėla” received news from the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work that the company’s example of good practice “Integration of Ergonomic Training into Risk Management”, which participated in the good practice competition on the subject “Prevention of Bone and Muscular System Disorders of Employees” organized by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work, was recognized as praiseworthy and nominated for the European competition.
The Company’s practical experience in this nomination was introduced in practical seminars held in Druskininkai and Vilnius this year. They were attended by the representatives of more than 1000 enterprises, institutions and organizations of the republic. The example of good practice of AB “Smiltynės perkėla” – “Integration of Ergonomic Training into Risk Management” – was presented among other works, was acknowledged as praiseworthy at the national level in Lithuania and was nominated for the European competition, the finale of which took place on 26 February 2008 in the city of Bilbao (Spain). The representatives of AB “Smiltynės perkėla” also attended the solemn laureate award ceremony in Bilbao.
The main objective of campaigns arranged by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work is to make European workplaces safer, healthier and more productive. This is done through accumulation of knowledge and information, which is further shared with everybody, thus fostering the culture of risk prevention. In one of such campaigns called “Lighten the load”, the example of good practice of AB “Smiltynės perkėla” participated under the theme “Prevention of Bone and Muscular System Disorders of Employees“ and was acknowledged as a nominee.
This European campaign promotes integrated bone-muscular system (BMS) disorders management methods, the goal of which is not only to prevent BMS disorders, but also to retain, rehabilitate and return employees already with BMS disorders back to work. Participation in the campaign “Lighten the load” is an excellent opportunity to reduce the number of work-related BMS disorders and to make workplaces in Europe safer and healthier.
